What can you do with a fireplace you hate? It came with the house? It doesn’t draw? It doesn’t throw heat? It sucks all the warm air out of the room? It’s crude? It’s just butt ugly?
The solution to this might be the H530, our biggest selling Wittus unit. The H530 is made to slide into an existing, code compliant fireplace. (It is not a zero clearance fireplace.)
The H530 is a Danish-made highly efficient heating unit that meets all EPA standards. It burns with the glass door shut. It is engineered to burn with a 6″ flue. Since masonry fireplaces have much larger flues we run a 6″ flexible stainless steel line up the chimney to vent the H530.
Although the H530 is meant to slide into any fireplace, we often find that some firebox alteration is required. This is where buying the H530 from Monterey Masonry is better than buying one from a stove shop and then going out and looking for a mason. We can take care of any masonry, in-house. Here are a few H530 before and after examples. You can see the issues and how we have dealt with them. In the last pair the client hated the stone work and wanted a more contemporary look. My design replaces the fieldstone fireplace and benches with a clean monochromatic bluestone. We also opened up one of the cabinets, lined it with zinc, and created a wood storage bin.
